5/5/2023 0 Comments Metroid prime 4 timelineProbably like that game, the entire team behind Dread hated what they were doing, but didn't feel like restarting it either, so they just gave up on it. What little we know of the story reminded me of the Dreamcast Thunder Force VI project. As of Samus Returns, any future attempt at Dread will be a completely new project. It had been in development for some time as a direct Fusion sequel, but the project never really got off the ground and has remained buried in a locker somewhere for over a decade now. This was the Metroid 5 everyone keeps asking for. Strange there isn't much mention of Metroid Dread. Tanabe seems like he really wants a more Halo-like Metroid Universe while Sakamoto wants to keep things more like the Aliens movies and there's a lot of clashing as each one adds new lore that doesn't work well with the other's. There really needs to be more communication between Sakamoto and Tanabe if they're going to insist that the games are connected, but I think they'd both benefit from just splitting the continuity. Other M can at least fudge it since Adam commanding her in Other M can be considered a continuation of his past command. Prime 3 broke that as much as Other M did and came out before it. And Prime 3 making her take orders from a CO even though Fusion came out before Prime 3 and in Fusion she said Adam was the only CO she ever had. And how Prime treats Ridley like a bioweapon rather than the leader of the Space Pirates, and making the Pirates a full-blown military operation with a whole planet. and then Prime 3 has like a bunch of Metroid Prime exoskelletons on Phaaze. but there weren't metroids on Tallon IV before the pirates came. So then they rewrote the lore for re-releases to say that Metroid Prime was just alway like that. But they forgot that the impact crater was sealed off by the Chozo so that should have been impossible. At first the lore was that Metroid Prime was a metroid that got mutated by phazon and then the pirates encountered it and it stole their tech. They couldn't even get their own lore straight within Prime 1 itself. Honestly if people are that concerned with continuity the Prime games, as much as I love them, are terrible at it. People just think that Samus having a PTSD relapse doesn't make sense because she didn't the other times, but Other M makes it clear Samus thought Ridley was gone for good and when she has her relapse she says "It can't be!" The relapse also only lasts 1 minute.
