![]() ![]() Pipe of the Year 2022 Rusticated Silver Cap P-Lip Peterson's really fortunate in that it has this trove of old shapes to look back to. So I think it's possible that we will have a new shape. What I can say is that we really love the old Peterson aesthetic - that Patent-era feel - so I think even if we were to do a new shape, we would be trying to capture that design language, that tubular and muscular look. : I think it's possible that there will be a brand new design. So is that something that you guys continue to look forward to? Are there going to be a lot of older catalog examples going forward? Do you think there's ever going to be a brand new design again? The next year we did the 9BC, and last year we revived the 4AB. So since Laudisi has been responsible for Peterson, we've done the John Bull shape, which was our first one in 2019. So more recently, I think this is the third year in a row now that we've done something that was historic or sort of a callback, right? Like a historic addition? We also did a Founder's Edition, which celebrated our 150th anniversary. : The first one was in 1997, and it has continued pretty much unbroken since that time. : So before we dig deeper into the shape, I'm curious: When did Peterson start making an annual edition for Pipe of the Year? So someone put that out there, and at the time, it seemed obvious so we ran with that. We were sitting around talking about what we'd like to do, and someone said, "What about the shape 14," which is known to many Peterson collectors as the Mark Twain shape. So this year's edition was sort of a dark horse choice. * Not pictured is my new Barling pipe from 1872.: Right. * Dunhill 1935 pipe, made for and smoked by George Sidney the director. * Peterson Mark Twain Poker, one of 2 made for the Peterson Dublin store display. * Peterson Mark Twain 1985 Gold LE pipe, no: 213 of 1000 made * Pipe with gift tin and tobacco, from 1914 that was part of the gifts that Princess Mary gave to all the frontline soldiers in WW1 I also have a Gilg pipe for actually arching daily for the final pipe in the original collection, the Gimli pipe. * The Bilbo, Aragorn and Gandalf pipes from the LOTR movies, these are the Vauen pipes that are exact replicas of the pipes they made for the movies and then were licensed to sell for a year or 2 after the movies…they took me a long time to find, especially unsmoked. My favorite pipes/interesting to me, in my collection are: With living in Romania, but being from England and working with Americans, most of my tobacco purchases are based on reviews online and taking a chance and hoping I like them…I am looking to build up my cellar this year based on testing, especially plugs and flakes I want to get into more, with the so kind and generous help of Sir Saartan I will be trying out flakes more and learning properly how to prepare/smoke them! They are philips hue strips, so going to play around a bit with the lights a bit. I am preparing and staining wood batons that will go on the bottom of each shelf in front of the lights to hide them and tidying up the holes/wiring and then it will be finished. So I have been organising my pipes and tobaccos collection over the weekend and installing lights in my pipes cabinet, I love looking at other people’s pipe collections so thought you guys might like to see some pics…I have been pipe smoking for about 4 years now, so it’s a small but growing collection… ![]()
